2 DAY HAIR MASTERCLASS

The Hair Master Classes are designed for each and every individual. They can be as basic or as intense as you wish. My judgement from your skills during the morning of day one will allow me to access your capabilities, and allow you to move forward should you be able to master each section. This enables the artist to cover as much as she/he feels manageable within the day/2 days.

A 2 day Hair masterclass covers :
Healthy hair,Sectioning,Blow drying,Back combing,Vintage,Straightening,Curling,Heated rollers,Velcro's. Then approximately 3 workable styles per day depending upon each persons ability. Images below were taken from a basic pony tail with a twist to a Gwen Steffani look...sleek, durable and easily adapted.

After completing the 2 day Hair Masterclass it is my goal to then have given you as much knowledge, guidance and expertise to enable you to apply these techniques to your working life as a commercial Makeup & Hair Artist.

For all further details and any questions please contact me at: clrhanson@gmail.com
Classes run throughout the year.
Models will be provided.
Breakfast, Lunch and light refreshments also included with the Master class.

Lancashire's Make-up artist to the stars

Claire Hanson has travelled the world as a make-up artist working with a host of celebrities, but she has never managed to get Lancashire out
of her system.

Claire, originally from West Bradford near Clitheroe, is regularly back in her native north west and she says the older she gets, the more she appreciates what the area has to offer.

‘It doesn’t matter where I go in the world,’ she says, ‘this is my home. I’ve seen the most amazing places, then I come back here and see our Lake District, our coast and the hills and realise there’s nowhere else in the world like Pendle Hill. It’s just breathtaking!’

In her career, 35 year-old Claire has worked with many big names including classical artists Andrea Bocelli and Hayley Westenra, TV presenters Fern Cotton and Kirstie Allsopp, writer Joanna Trollope, rock star Jon Bon Jovi and popstars S Club 7.

‘I worked for S Club 7 for about five years,’ says Claire. ‘I think in all that time I only had about three weeks off.’ However, her favourite and perhaps most high profile client is American singer/songwriter Lionel Richie.

‘After several promotional trips to London where I did his hair and make-up I was asked to go on a three month tour of Europe and the UK with him in a wardrobe/personal assistant capacity. If he did any promotional work for a new single during this time I also did his hair and make-up. Six months after that we did a three week tour of Australia and New Zealand.

‘It meant I was away from home a lot but I’ve had some amazing experiences, including getting picked up by the King and Queen of Jordan in their airbus for a private gig Lionel was performing for them.’

It’s all a far cry from practising make-up on her mum at the age of 15 back in West Bradford.

‘She has been amazing, always encouraged me and been behind the decisions I’ve made.'

‘The other big inspiration in my life was my Grandma. She was an incredible lady, very groomed with polished nails at all times and certainly an inspiration for my mum and I.

She always wanted to know who I’d been working with and what I’d done for them!

‘At 16, it was a choice between working with animals or children,’ smiles Claire, who now has a home in Oxford. ‘I arranged a week’s work experience in a nursery and one at a veterinary centre in Skipton, but I had a bit of a crush on the vet and so ended up just doing that placement.’

However, a week later having seen the life of a vet and certainly a veterinary nurse wasn’t as glamorous as it sounded, Claire enrolled at Burnley College to get her NNEB nanny qualification and moved down to London for her first job.

‘I thought I was going to be the next Mary Poppins, but I didn’t last that long,’ she laughs.

Claire’s big break came when she was introduced to the make-up artist doing the live catwalk shows for The Clothes Show Live, Mary Ellen Lamb. She worked with her on a number of catwalk shows including the Clothes Show Live and London Fashion Week before making the decision to go freelance.

‘The film industry wasn’t quick enough for me so I decided I’d rather go into the fashion and music industry instead.

‘I’ve had a great time doing the celebrity work and will continue doing it, but now at the age of 35 I’m trying to do something positive and give something back,’ she says.

This she is doing by working with individual or small groups of ladies who have suffered from disease or long term illness like cancer.

‘A lot of the ladies I’m working with thought their life was coming to an end but because they’ve beaten their illness, cancer for example, they now realise its just beginning,’ she says. ‘These treatments do change skin and hair types I give them advice on what products they should be using and how to apply them to help them look and feel great.’

CHLOE MORETZ AT HER PREMIERE OF 'LET ME IN' AT LONDON'S FILM FESTIVAL

Actress Chloe Moretz attends the "Let Me In" premiere during the 54th BFI London Film Festival at the Vue West End on October 14, 2010 in London, England.

I've been working with Chloe over the past few months on various Press & TV days in London for the build up to the release of her movie 'Let Me In'.
Matt Reeves’ horror film Let Me In starring Chloe Moretz, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Richard Jenkins. The film centers on a bullied young-boy (Smit-McPhee) who begins a friendship with his mysterious/vampiric neighbor (Moretz)

We left Pinewood Studios (where Chloe is currently filming a new movie with Director Martin Scorsese,) after I had prepped Chloe's Hair into a chic tussled style, using Tigi's amazing spray product 'Totally Beachin'.

HAIR
I applied Tigi's 'Totally Beachin' to Chloe's damp hair and scrunch dried into a tussled chic look. Then sections were loosely curled on top and pulled through, to give some definition.

MAKEUP
Make up was a mixture of Nars, MAC and The Green People
Makeup was light and dewy(Nars Sheer Matte Base 'Deauville', followed by 'Light' mineral powder by The Green People in certain areas of the face, leaving areas free for MAC Strobe cream to come through on the cheek bones) with a hint of flush to the cheeks using Cream Blush 'Penny Lane' by Nars. For the eyes I used MAC Lipglass gel to give the impression of a wet look, keeping the area above her lashes clear for a striking black thin line. The look was completed with clean curled black mascara lashes by The Green People, and Nars 'Chelsea Girl' nude lip gloss.

Queen Charlotte Ball - The Debutantes 2010

I, together with my amazing team, were chosen for this years Queen Charlotte's Ball held on Monday 13th September, to front the make up & hair side to the event which takes place annually, and is the finale to The London Season's calender of events.28 Debutantes were under our artistic wands!
It was staged at London's Inner Temple in The Treasury, and 'Hello' magazine covered the evening both in front of house and back stage, together with various news and entertainment programes.
Make up was supplied courtesy of 'The Green People' and hair products by 'TIGI'.

The history of The Debutantes dates back 200 years: The Queen Charlotte Ball was founded 200 years ago by Queen Charlotte with the help of the Debutantes of the time to raise funds for mothers and babies through the hospital that later became known as Queen Charlotte hospital. Today this tradition continues in a sort of new format charity event, attracting royalty and celebrities.
A Debutante comes from the French word meaning 'female beginner'. It is a young lady from an aristocratic or upper class family who has reached the age of maturity and as a new adult is introduced to society at a formal, 'debut' presentation. Originally it meant that the young woman was eligible to marry with a view to marriage within a select upper class circle. Debutantes maybe recommended by a distinguished committee or sponsored by an established member of elite society. In the southern United States, Debutantes are also referred to as 'Southern Belles', the male equivalent of a Debutante is a 'Beau'.

Please see below extremely rare footage of the dress rehearsal.

NICOLE RICHIE - The Glamour Awards London

NICOLE RICHIE - The Glamour Awards June 8th London

Nicole arrived into London for a 3 day schedule to include The Glamour Awards where she was presented with The Entrepreneur Woman Of The Year Award for her fashion collection 'Winter Kate', various interviews and a presentation of her collection 'House of Harlow'.
I was asked to work with Nicole again over the 3 days, doing both Make up and Hair, previously we had worked together at the UK launch in Selfridges , London of 'Winter Kate' (image on next blog together with images from the Awards).

For the Make up, which was provided by Nars Nicole and I worked together to create an elegant Audrey Hepburn inspired look with Nicole's edge added to the mix.
I used a mix of foundation and light reflecting cream extremely lightly to create a flawless base, on which to apply a light dusting of translucent powder.
On the cheeks I added a sheer peach based blush with light reflecting particles in it to create a fabulous dewy look, that I know captures well on camera from all angles...concentrating this on the apple of the cheek.
Eyes were pale nude lids, with sockets sultry and smoked bringing it out to form a cat like shape.
Then I applied a thick liquid liner above the lashes, following the cat like shape forming a 'flick', just like Ms Hepburn fashioned in many of her classic looks.
Under eye was kept to a minimum, with a black kohl pencil used in the inner eye to frame the eye and make the whole look 'pop'.
Several layers of mascara were added to finish the eyes.
Eyebrows were groomed and I brushed through a light tan shade to accentuate the arch, which opens the face and balances the heavier eyed make up looks.
The look was finished with the lip gloss added last before departure to the awards. The same tone as cheeks and was a fabulous nude with a hint of peach.

Hair care products were provided by Tigi - and I created a side pony tail with added height at the back. The pony tail was textured to create a messier look, yet still glamorous, as the awards were titled!

VINTAGE TEA PARTY WITH ADDED GLAMOUR

Upon arrival to my home, everyone will be introduced as we have refreshments in the garden followed by an introduction into the glamour that was the 1940’s & 50’s, which has been making a return to the scenes over the past few years – thank goodness! We all need to feel special and the ladies of this period certainly knew how to dress and present themselves including having impeccable makeup and hair – which is the main subject for today – as well as the all important CUP CAKE!!
I have created the master classes, especially for the Summer months as these can be used for either your own use or for those of you who are working makeup artists, and wish to perfect the look on your clients – it is also open to everyone else who just loves this era, and wishes to dress for the occasion also, even bringing along your parasol – for the sunshine not the rain!
Here at Hill House is my studio, which will be your home for the afternoon; an ambiance of music from this period will also set the scene. The various styles of eye makeup will be the highlight, as they concentrated the makeup here, with the liners, the shading, contouring and of course the all important lashes! We will re create the look of many of our all time heroine’s – Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Rita Hayworth, Katherine Hepburn & Lauren Bacall to name a handful, and including today’s stars such as Katy Perry, Duffy & Dita Von Tesse’s distinctive looks which I get asked a lot to teach people the best and easiest way to apply the all important eyeliner flick! Well today you will all become masters of this and be able to vary what you learn with all manner of colours and shades.

We will as well look at how to create the ‘dreamy dewy’ look, which was also in fashion in the 50’s, and is certainly a favorite of many of our stars today from the stage and screen. Many of my music clients love this look, both for the red carpet events, and also for private parties or shoots. It is very versatile, and can be one of the most flattering looks for all skin types and face shapes if applied correctly.
After transforming into dazzling ladies that do high tea, we will all do just that, weather permitting, in the garden – where sandwiches, cakes and tea will be served with the vintage theme running through…
The day begins at Noon and ends when everyone has eaten the last cup cake!
I will be on hand all day for questions and requests, and you are very welcome to wear anything ‘vintage’ this will only add to the feel of the day… but is not at all compulsory. Bookings are being taken now, and are limited to 8 places per Sunday.
Looking forward to seeing you all on one of the days…..Claire
